Book Reviews to Start!

Very soon a monthly book review will begin. Some of these book reviews will be of long established books, not just recently published ones.

First review will come in early September.

Coming This Week!

Book Reviewing About to Begin:

Re-reading "The Dog's Mind" by: Bruce Fogel, and will be writing a short review for it this week. Any book listed on this site as recommended have at least a 4 out of 5 rating. This has been previously discusssed but with the (hopefully) monthly reviews about to get underway I thought it worth restating.

Some will be surprised at the books I do not rate so well and will not be recommended from this Blog. Once I have a couple of reviews posted I will make an ongoing list of some of the books I do not recommend with a brief explanation of why. Some people/trainers will be VERY surprised by some of those NOT reviewed and NOT recommended.

Let's call this all just a TEASE...

MERRY MERRY!

Recommended Books:

Reposted and removed from earlier post-
Up to 9 books recommended!

Books Reviewed:
Been thinking about this a little bit and I have decided to do a monthly book review. I will start with books I have already read, to be fair, I will re-read them and then write up a small review. Keep in mind as already explained, any book I am recommending is rated at least a 4 out of 5 scale. So these will be the books I review as well.

(Books are listed in the right column below the Photo Albums.)

Maybe at some point down the line a little I will make an ongoing list of the 'popular' books that I do not feel actually give enough good, valid, true information, even though many others seem to gush over some of these books. A little good information wrapped up in pc, bend the facts to fit their needs, give people what they want not what they need, BS. Many written by the already referred to as 'gurus' to some.

Night all,

DogStar's Recommended Reading:

Good Evening!

I have started a section on recommended reading regarding mostly dog training books. A few are books good for dog owners, most are books directed more at trainers or owners with a deep interest in learning more about their dog's behavior and methods of training.

If we were to rate books on a scale of 1-5, no book here would be rated less than 4.

There are many recent books that lots of people are recommending, personally I find most of them to be way too pc (politically correct) and present an unbalanced view. Others can recommend everything under the sun, I will only recommend those I truly feel are above average. (Dog training books are a dime a dozen.)

If all we read and study from, are things with which we already agree, there is not going to be a lot of mind expanding going on. Grow your brain, challenge your own beliefs! As I am often heard saying or seen writing...

"Think outside that damn box!"

You will also find that I recommend many of the 'classics', books that have stood the test of time. You will also see that many of the books I recommend are in depth studies on very specific topics/venues of dog training. For the professional trainer we can all learn a lot by studying areas of training we do not work in.

Hope you find this helpful. I will be placing a couple of books a week on the list and then once I have most of them up I will only put up a new one each month, (got to read them before I recommend them). I will also write up my own review of some of these books, maybe with a goal of one per month.

As always thanking you for your time,
Eric/DogStar
